ATFirst™ Urinalysis Reagent Strips, 10 Parameters

Dip-and-read reagent strips with ten test pads for routine urine chemistry, packed 100 strips to a bottle.

Bottles of 10-parameter urinalysis reagent strips

Intended use

ATFirst™ urinalysis reagent strips are plastic strips carrying ten separate reagent pads. A healthcare professional dips a strip in a urine specimen and compares each pad with a color chart. The findings support clinical assessment.

Ten-parameter strips conventionally cover glucose, bilirubin, ketone, specific gravity, blood, pH, protein, urobilinogen, nitrite and leukocytes. Confirm the pad configuration of this product on the bottle label. Versions with 1 to 11 parameters are available on request. First Diagnostic™ Corporation lists the strips alongside its rapid tests in the general health category.

How the strips work

This product is not a lateral flow test. Nothing migrates along a membrane and no antibodies are involved. Each pad is impregnated with dry chemicals that react with one constituent of urine and change color.

The user wets all pads briefly, removes excess urine, waits for the time printed for each pad and matches the colors against the chart on the bottle. Reading is visual. For comparison, the cassette format is described in our guide to lateral flow tests.

What to confirm in the insert

  • Which ten parameters are on the strip, and their order
  • Specimen collection, container and how soon urine must be tested
  • Dipping technique and the read time for each pad
  • The color blocks and the levels they represent
  • Storage, and how long strips last once the bottle is opened

The bottle label and the insert supplied with each pack define these points. The current insert is available on request from sales@firstdiagnostic.com; see also the product inserts page.

Limitations

  • Strip findings are indicative. Abnormal results are followed up with microscopy, culture or quantitative laboratory methods as appropriate.
  • Reagent pads are sensitive to moisture and light. Strips from a bottle left open may give wrong colors.
  • Ascorbic acid in urine can interfere with the glucose and blood pads, and strongly colored urine can mask pad colors.
  • Color matching by eye varies between readers and with lighting.
