ATFirst™ Myoglobin Rapid Test (MYO)

Qualitative detection of myoglobin in whole blood, serum or plasma on a lateral flow cassette. A supporting marker, never a stand-alone answer.

First Diagnostic™ myoglobin rapid test kit box

Intended use

Healthcare professionals use the ATFirst™ myoglobin rapid test to see whether myoglobin is present in whole blood, serum or plasma above the level defined in the insert. The result is qualitative and supports clinical assessment of suspected muscle injury, including injury to heart muscle.

Myoglobin is a small oxygen-binding protein found in both heart and skeletal muscle. Because the molecule is small, it reaches the blood quickly after muscle damage and is then cleared by the kidneys. That behavior makes it a marker of timing, not of origin. First Diagnostic™ Corporation distributes the cassette under the ATFirst™ brand; see the full rapid tests catalog.

How the test works

Inside the cassette, colored particles coated with anti-myoglobin antibody mix with the specimen and move along the membrane. A second anti-myoglobin antibody, fixed at the test line, captures the complex in tests of this design, and a separate control line shows that the run is valid. Line interpretation is given in the insert. More on the format: lateral flow tests explained.

What to confirm in the insert

No procedural figures are published here, because they belong to the insert packed with each kit. Before use, confirm the accepted specimens and their handling, the sample volume, the read window, the myoglobin detection level, storage conditions and the interpretation rules.

Write to sales@firstdiagnostic.com for the current insert. Inserts that are already published can be downloaded from the product inserts page.

Limitations

  • Myoglobin is not specific to the heart. Skeletal muscle injury, strenuous exercise and reduced kidney function can all raise it.
  • Because myoglobin is cleared quickly, a negative result does not exclude an earlier injury.
  • A myoglobin result is never interpreted alone. ECG and laboratory troponin testing under the local chest-pain protocol remain the basis for decisions.
  • The test gives no concentration.

Frequently asked questions

Some protocols use it as an additional marker next to troponin. Whether it has a place is a decision for the clinical service, not for the test supplier.

Whole blood, serum or plasma; 20 tests per kit; catalog number 85226400125. Pack size is confirmed at quotation.

Myoglobin and troponin I are combined on the 3-in-1 combo, which also includes CK-MB. The troponin I cassette is a separate single-marker test. New distributors start with the distributor application.
