A qualitative lateral flow cassette that shows whether C-reactive protein in serum is raised above the level defined in the insert.
C-reactive protein is an acute-phase protein made by the liver. Its concentration in blood rises when there is inflammation, for example in bacterial infection or after tissue injury, and falls again as the inflammation resolves. A CRP rapid test shows, qualitatively, whether that rise is present.
The ATFirst™ cassette is for professional use. It indicates whether CRP in a serum specimen is above the level defined in the insert, and so supports clinical assessment where inflammation is suspected. First Diagnostic™ Corporation distributes it with its other ATFirst™ rapid tests.

CRP in the specimen binds to anti-CRP antibody carried on colored particles. As the mixture moves along the membrane, a second anti-CRP antibody at the test line holds the complex in place; a control line shows that the strip has run correctly. This is the usual arrangement for a test of this type, and the insert describes the exact line layout and how to read it. Background: how lateral flow tests work.
For CRP the single most important figure is the level at which the test line becomes visible, because that level decides what a result means clinically. It is stated in the insert supplied with each kit, together with specimen handling, sample volume, read window, storage and interpretation.
Ask sales@firstdiagnostic.com for the current insert before you order. Published inserts are collected on the product inserts page.
