ToRCH rapid tests for antenatal clinics and laboratories

First Diagnostic™ Corporation supplies ToRCH rapid tests under the ATFirst™ brand for professional in vitro diagnostic use. ToRCH here covers Toxoplasma, rubella, cytomegalovirus (CMV) and herpes simplex virus (HSV), infections that clinicians assess in prenatal care.

These lateral flow tests are used in antenatal clinics, maternity units and hospital or district laboratories. Each result is an aid to diagnosis and must be interpreted by a clinician with other clinical and laboratory findings.

Using IgM and IgG results responsibly

IgM serology has well-known interpretive limits. IgM tests are subject to cross-reactivity, and IgM can persist, so a reactive result is not proof of recent infection. An IgG result cannot distinguish active from past infection.

These are qualitative tests: they do not give an antibody level or show whether it is rising. A negative result does not exclude infection. Reactive results in pregnancy should be confirmed by laboratory methods before they inform clinical decisions.
