Lateral flow rapid test cassette with control and test lines

Rapid tests for point-of-care and laboratory use

Rapid tests give a qualitative result in minutes from a small specimen: whole blood, serum, plasma, a swab or urine, depending on the test. Almost all of the products in this catalog are lateral flow tests in cassette format; the urinalysis reagent strips are the exception.

Every test here is intended for use by healthcare professionals as an aid to diagnosis. If you are new to the format, start with what rapid diagnostic tests are and how to evaluate one.

How to choose a rapid test

  • Intended use. Check what the insert says the test is for, in which patients and settings.
  • Antigen or antibody. Antigen tests look for the organism; antibody tests look for the immune response, which can persist after an infection has cleared.
  • Specimen. Fingerstick whole blood suits outreach settings; serum and plasma need a centrifuge; swabs and urine need extraction steps.
  • Performance evidence. Look at sensitivity and specificity together with the comparator method and the number of samples.
  • Storage and shelf life. The cassettes with published inserts are stored at 2–30 °C (4–30 °C for the syphilis test); confirm lot dating when you request a quote.
  • Documentation for your country. See the Country Station and quality and regulatory information.
